What You’ll Need
Most of these afghans use worsted weight yarn in red, green and white, and a 5 mm to 6 mm crochet hook covers almost all of them. For the fast chunky throws, grab super bulky yarn and a big 10 mm to 15 mm hook. Keep stitch markers and a tapestry needle close for weaving in all those color ends.

Tips for Your Christmas Afghan
- Start early. A full size throw takes many evenings. Late October is the perfect time to begin.
- Pick your size first. A lapghan for one person is about 36 by 48 inches. A couch throw is closer to 50 by 60 inches.
- Weave ends as you go. Color work means lots of ends. Ten minutes each night saves a long, sad evening at the end.
- Use washable yarn. Christmas blankets get hot cocoa spills. Acrylic washes easily and stays soft.
