Daily Crochet

Free Crochet Patterns & Video Tutorials

Editorial and Curation Policy

Daily Crochet publishes free crochet patterns, tutorials and pattern roundups. This page explains what we write ourselves, how we handle other designers’ work, how images and credit are managed, how we use AI, and how advertising fits in.

Last reviewed: 22 September 2026.

1. What we publish

Two kinds of thing:

  • Our own work – patterns, tutorials, stitch guides, yarn and hook explainers, and beginner help, written and photographed for this site.
  • Pattern roundups – collections that gather the best free patterns for a subject in one place and send you to the designers who made them.

Roundups are a real service to crocheters, but only if they are done honestly. Section 2 is how we do them.

2. How our roundups work

This is the part that matters most, so it is the part we are most specific about.

We do not host or reproduce other designers’ patterns. A roundup entry gives a short description written in our own words, one photograph of the finished design, and a link straight to the designer’s own page. The instructions, stitch counts, charts, sizing notes and PDF downloads stay where the designer put them – on their site, earning them their traffic.

Specifically:

  • we link to the designer’s original page, never to a copy, a mirror, a re-uploaded PDF or a scraped version;
  • we name the designer or the blog, every time;
  • we never rewrite someone’s pattern into our own words and publish it as ours;
  • we do not put our own watermark or branding on another designer’s photograph;
  • we do not reproduce patterns that are sold, or that sit behind a paywall or an email signup, beyond naming them and linking to where they are sold.

A pattern being free to read does not make it free to republish. The designer still owns it, and the point of a roundup is to send people to them.

3. Photographs and credit

Our own patterns and tutorials use our own photography.

A roundup entry carries one photograph of the finished design. That photograph is the designer’s own, it appears once, at the top of that entry, and it is always credited to them by name with a link to their original page. It is there for one reason: so a reader can recognise the design and decide to go and see it.

A list of bare links is not a roundup and is no use to anybody. A crocheter choosing between fifteen patterns is choosing with their eyes. How we handle those photographs, and why:

  • One photograph per pattern, never a gallery. Enough to recognise the design and click through – never a designer’s full set of photos, their step-by-step shots, their charts or their diagrams.
  • We keep our own copy rather than hotlinking yours. Loading the image from your server would put our traffic on your hosting bill. Our own copy means being featured here costs you nothing and only sends you readers.
  • We never watermark, rebrand, or crop out a credit. Your photograph stays yours and stays recognisable as yours.
  • The photograph never replaces the visit. The instructions, stitch counts, charts, sizing and downloads stay on your site, where they earn you the traffic.

If you are a designer and you would rather we used a different photograph, a different credit, no photograph at all, or nothing of yours at all, just tell us. We do not argue about it, we do not ask for a reason, and you do not need to send a legal notice – see section 4.

4. Designers: how to have something changed or removed

Send us the address of the page on our site and say what you would like changed. We will shorten a description, correct or change a credit, swap or remove a photograph, or take the entry down completely – and we will add you to our list of sites we do not feature again if that is what you want.

You do not need to send a legal notice to get this done. If you would rather make a formal copyright complaint, our DMCA policy sets out that process.

Use our contact page to reach us.

5. How we use AI

AI tools may be used behind the scenes to research a subject, organise an outline, suggest a title, or tidy up a rough paragraph.

Nothing is published without a person reading it first. Every article is planned, edited and approved by a person, and the recommendations in it are ours. Crucially, crochet instructions, stitch counts and finished measurements are worked through and checked by a person before a pattern goes live – we do not publish machine-generated pattern instructions that nobody has verified.

6. Accuracy, corrections and updates

Patterns go out with reconciled stitch counts, and we revisit older posts rather than leaving links to rot. Roundup links break when designers move or close their sites; when we find a dead link we repair or replace it.

If you find an error in a pattern – a stitch count that does not add up, a row that does not work, a broken link – please tell us. We correct it in the article, and where a correction changes how the pattern works we say that it was corrected.

7. Using our content

Our patterns, tutorials, photographs and downloads are our copyright.

You are welcome to:

  • make items from our free patterns for yourself, as gifts, or to sell – we only ask that you credit Daily Crochet as the pattern source when you list a finished item;
  • quote a sentence or two from an article with our name and a link to the original page;
  • link to any page on this site, and use one photo with a credit and a link when you do;
  • share our posts on social media.

Please do not republish our patterns or articles in full or in substantial part, re-host our PDFs, translate or rewrite them and present them as your own, sell them, or feed them into an automated system that republishes them. If you want to do more than the above, ask us first.

8. Advertising, affiliate links and editorial independence

Daily Crochet is free to read and is funded by display advertising and affiliate links.

Display advertising is managed by Ezoic, which works with Google AdSense and other advertising partners. Those ads are chosen and placed automatically by the advertising systems. We do not select the advertisers, and an ad appearing on a page is not a recommendation from us. The partners involved and the cookies they use are described in our Privacy Policy.

Some links to yarn, hooks and supplies are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Affiliate links never decide which patterns we feature or how a roundup is ordered. Free patterns are chosen because they are good, not because there is money attached to them.

If we ever publish a post that has been paid for or sponsored, it will be clearly labelled as sponsored at the top of that post.

9. Comments and reader photographs

We love seeing what you have made, and we sometimes feature reader photographs. If you send us a photo, please only send one you took yourself – by sending it you are giving us permission to show it on the site and on our social channels with credit to you, and you can ask us to take it down at any time.

Comments are yours, not ours. Please do not paste in patterns or instructions you do not own. We remove comments that are spam, abusive, or that reproduce someone else’s copyrighted work.

10. Contact

Questions about this policy, corrections, permission requests, credit changes and takedown requests all go to the same place: our contact page. We aim to reply within a few working days.
