Here is another beautiful work of art. This Prince Protea Crochet Square by Virginia Burrow & Dedri Uys, may as well become your new favorite. The texture is amazing, simple, striking and works up quickly. The reviews for this crochet square are great, the pattern is really simple to follow, very clear and well explained.

Below you'll find a Prince Protea square featured on Dedri's blog. Many of you have already heard about Dedri of Look At What I Made, she is one of the talented creators of this gorgeous square.

This square is a collaboration between one of our CAL participants, Virginia Burrow, and my little old self. Based on my King Protea Mandala, this square is striking and surprisingly easy (once you get past the front post trebles).

Suggested Materials

5 mm crochet hook (US H/8 UK 6)
Worsted weight yarn

Size

Using the hook and yarn specified, your square should be a nice even 12″ when you are done.
Using a 4 mm crochet hook (US G/6 UK 8) and double knit yarn, as I have done, your finished square will be about 8.5″ big.

To make a square just like this one , you’ll need:

  • 5 mm hook
  • yarn ”cake” of your choice ( I used Stylecraft Special DK in denim, mocha and parchment for my square)
