This is a lovely blanket and a great stash buster. The Bobbly Flower Hexagon by Mad Blanketer is beautiful and looks so warm and squishy! This pattern is made using the popcorn stitch which creates a larger, puffier bobble than the classic bobble stitch.
Bobbly Flower Hexagon was inspired by and designed after a vintage afghan. The pattern creates thick/dense block suitable for afghans, blankets, cushion covers, trivets and etc. You can use as many or few colors as you like. Possibilities are endless and hope you’ll enjoy making them as much as I do!
My afghan is 55” x 39”, done in worsted weight acrylic yarn with 5.5mm hook and made of 120 hexagons. It weighs a little over 1,500g which means each hexagons weighs approximately 12.5g. To do a full size adult afghan (50” x 70”), you need at least 195 hexagons (13 x 15) which would weigh approximately 2,500g. Using 170yd per 100g for calculation (yardage for Vanna’s Choice), it comes up to 4,250yd. So, I’d say you’ll need around 4,500yd to be on the safe side. Bobble (popcorn) stitch eats up a quite bit of yarn. Hope this helps and you’ll enjoy making your afghan:) (Source)
