Tips Before You Start

  • Holding 8 strands together sounds like a lot, but it is how you get that thick, squishy rug texture. Work with whatever combination of scraps you have — there is no wrong color.
  • Cotton yarn holds up best for rugs because it is washable and does not stretch much underfoot.
  • Work loose. A 9mm hook with that many strands can feel tight — loosen your grip and let the stitches breathe.
  • A non-slip rug pad underneath is worth the small investment, especially on hardwood or tile floors.
