Learn A New Crochet Stitch: Waistcoat Stitch AKA The Knit Stitch

The waistcoat stitch aka the knit stitches produces a very dense and firm texture that's also very attractive. It looks like it is knitted although is a crocheted stitch. Easy Tutorial: How To Do The Waistcoat Stitch AKA The “Knit” Stitch by Nicki's Homemade Crafts will teach you how to crochet the waistcoat stitch in two different ways, going in a round (while changing colors) and going flat (one color only). It works best in the round, in my opinion and it looks just as good from the inside as the outside.

  1. It looks like you start with a chain stitch of however long your project is (close it with a SS if you want to work in the round, like with a hat or mittens or thick socks). Then do a row of Single Crochet (DC for the UK), then on your next row do a chain 1 and then start crocheting as normal, except put your hook through the V or inverted V instead of the top loop of the SC crochet row below. Sorry if this isn’t clear, I tend to ramble 🙂
