Step-by-Step: The Video Subtitles

These are the video’s subtitles, copied word for word. The video has no chapters, so they are split into four parts, each with the time it starts in the video.

Part 1 (0:00)

Hi everyone,
Today we’ll be crocheting this little monster
hair clip. We’ll be using
this gradient-colored mohair yarn (Little Cloud),
along with alligator clips and a 2.0mm crochet hook.
Now let’s get started.
First, we take out our yarn.
For the first round, we’ll start with a magic ring.
First, yarn over and pull through to make a chain.
Then in this ring, we’ll crochet 6
single crochets.
Go ahead and finish all 6 single crochets.
After completing 6 single crochets,
tighten the ring and slip stitch into the first stitch.
After the slip stitch,
chain one.

Part 2 (0:56)

Now for Round 2 – we’ll be making
2 loop stitches in each stitch.
First, let me show you how to make a loop stitch:
Insert hook into the first stitch,
yarn over and pull up a loop,
then use your middle
finger to hold the yarn like this,
then yarn over and complete a single crochet.
That’s one loop stitch.
Then in the same stitch,
make another loop stitch
using the same method.
Two loop stitches per stitch.
Now continue Round 2 on your own.
There are 6 sets total.
After finishing Round 2,
slip stitch to the first stitch and chain one.

Part 3 (1:43)

For Round 3, the pattern is:
1 loop stitch,
then 1 loop stitch increase.
First, in the initial stitch,
make 1 loop stitch.
Then in the next stitch, make 2 loop stitches.
Remember – 2 in this stitch.
That’s the pattern for Round 3.
Continue Round 3 following this pattern.
After Round 3, chain one
for the final round.
Round 4 pattern: 2 loop stitches,
then 1 loop stitch increase.
Continue with this pattern
to complete the round.
Two stitches,
then in the third stitch,
make two loop stitches.
Complete Round 4, then
you can fasten off.

Part 4 (2:48)

Now take white yarn to make
the eye whites.
For the eyes, start with a magic ring,
then make 6 single crochets in the ring.
Tighten the ring and slip stitch to the first stitch.
After 6 single crochets, tighten the ring,
slip stitch to first stitch, then fasten off.
Then add the black pupils.
Make two eye whites,
then
attach them.
After attaching,
use fabric glue to attach the alligator clip
to the back.
And there you have it –
your little monster hair clip is complete!

Monster Hair Clip Tips

  • Hold the loop with your middle finger. That is how the video forms each loop stitch, and it keeps the loops an even length.
  • Watch the loop stitch demo twice. Round 2 starts with a slow close-up of one loop stitch. Once you have it, the rest of the clip is the same stitch.
  • Pick your colors. Gradient mohair gives the rainbow fluff in the video. Orange and purple make a quick Halloween version.
  • Let the glue dry. Give the fabric glue time to set before the clip goes in anyone’s hair.
