Materials & Tools

Stitches & Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc inc = single crochet increase (2 sc in same stitch)
  • sc3tog = single crochet 3 together (decrease)

Heart-Shaped Hair Clip Pattern

Step 1: Foundation Chain

  1. With 2.5 mm hook, make a slip knot, leaving a 20 cm tail.
  2. Ch 15 (this forms the base of the heart).
  3. Switch to 2.0 mm hook.

Step 2: First Row (Shaping the Heart)

  1. Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch).
  2. Starting from the second ch from hook, work:
    • 5 sc (1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches).
    • sc3tog (decrease next 3 stitches into 1).
    • 5 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
    • In the last stitch, work 3 sc (this forms the first curve of the heart).
  3. Now, working along the other side of the foundation chain:
    • 6 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
    • In the next stitch, work 3 sc (forms the heart’s tip).

  5. 3 sc inc (2 sc in each of the next 3 stitches).

  7. In the next stitch, work 3 sc (heart tip).
  8. 7 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
  9. 2 sc inc (2 sc in each of the next 2 stitches).
  10. Sl st into the back loop of the first sc to join.

Step 4: Third Round (Final Shaping)

  1. Ch 1, then in the same stitch, work 1 sc.
  2. Sc inc in the next stitch.
  3. 3 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
  4. sc3tog (decrease).
  5. 3 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
  6. Next 6 stitches: Work [1 sc, sc inc] x3 (increases for the curve).
  7. 8 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
  8. In the next stitch, work 3 sc (heart tip).
  9. 8 sc (1 sc in each stitch).
  10. Last 4 stitches: Work [1 sc, sc inc] x2.
  11. Sl st into the first sc to join, fasten off, and weave in ends.
