Cat Coaster & Round Tray Organizer Pattern
Skill Level: Beginner
Materials:

  • Medium weight yarn (2 strands held together)
  • 5.0mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Main Body (Base)

  1. Magic Ring: Make a magic ring, ch 1 (does not count as st).
  2. Round 1: Work 7 sc into ring. Pull tight to close. (7 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  3. Round 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each st around. (14 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  4. Round 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. (21 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  5. Round 4: Ch 1. 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. (28 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  6. Round 5: Ch 1. 1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. (35 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  7. Rounds 6-8: Continue increasing by 7 sts each round:
    • Round 6: 1 sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep (42 sts)
    • Round 7: 1 sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep (49 sts)
    • Round 8: 1 sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep (56 sts)
    • Sl st to join at end of each round.
  8. Rounds 9-10: Work even with no increases: 1 sc in each st around. (56 sts)
    • Sl st to join at end of each round.
    • Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Ears (Make 2)

  1. Magic Ring: Make magic ring, ch 1.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc into ring. Pull tight. (6 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  3. Round 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  4. Round 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep around. (18 sts)
    • Sl st to first sc to join.
  5. Round 4: Ch 1. 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep around. (24 sts)
    • Sl st to join.
    • Fasten off, leaving tail for sewing.

Tail

  1. Magic Ring: Make magic ring, ch 1.
  2. Rounds 1-11: Work 6 sc in each round (no increases).
    • Sl st to join at end of each round.
    • Fasten off, leaving tail for sewing.

Assembly

  1. Position ears about 4-5 rounds apart near edge of main body.
  2. Sew ears securely using yarn tails.
  3. Sew tail to opposite side of ears.
  4. Weave in all ends.

Finishing

  • Lightly steam block if needed to flatten.
  • Can stiffen with fabric stiffener if using as organizer.

Notes:

  • For a larger tray, continue increasing rounds (always adding 7 increases per round) until desired size.
  • For coaster size, stop at Round 5 or 6.
  • Using 2 strands gives thickness; for lighter version use single strand with smaller hook.
