This crochet flower bouquet coaster pattern is going to feel like drawing with yarn—simple steps, pretty colors, and a really cute result. You only need basic crochet stitches and a little patience to turn a flat base into a tiny bouquet on your table.
What you need
You can use scrap yarn for this coaster, so it is a great stash‑buster project.
- Cotton or cotton‑blend yarn in two colors:
- Color A: base and leaves
- Color B: flowers
- A hook size that matches your yarn (check the yarn label)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Stitches (US terms):
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- BLO = back loop only
Step 1: Make the base
Think of the base as the “ground” where your bouquet will sit. You’ll work one little section (a repeat) at a time.
Base repeat (all in the same base point or around a center, depending how you place it):
- 1 sc
- 3 ch
- 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc
- 3 ch
- 1 sc
This makes a small arch with chain spaces between the double crochets. Those spaces are where your flowers and leaves will grow later. Repeat this base section evenly around to build the full coaster shape, keeping your tension gentle so it does not curl.
Step 2: Crochet the leaves
Now you’ll add little green leaves to make it look like a real bouquet. Each leaf is quick and only uses chains, single crochet, and slip stitch.
Leaf (one leaf):
- 1 sc
- 7 ch
- sl st into the 4th chain from the hook, BLO
- 3 ch
- 1 sc
The slip stitch in the 4th chain makes the leaf tip pointy, and the extra chains give it a soft curve. Place leaves in the spots you want “greenery,” like between flower spaces around the base. You can make as many or as few leaves as you like.
Step 3: Popcorn flowers – first round
Next, you’ll crochet the flowers in those chain spaces. These are popcorn‑style stitches, so they puff out and look like tiny blossoms.
First flower round:
- Make a slip knot with your flower color (Color B).
- Insert your hook into the right space of the flower base.
- ch 3, then 3 dc in the same space.
- Gently pull your loop a bit longer so it doesn’t fall off.
- Take your hook out of the loop, insert it into the back loop of the 3rd starting chain, then put the long loop back on the hook and pull it through to close the popcorn.
- ch 1 to lock it.
For the next chain space:
- Work 4 dc in that chain space.
- Take your loop off the hook, insert the hook into the 1st dc you made, put the loop back on the hook, and pull it through to close the popcorn.
- ch 1 to secure.
Repeat this popcorn step in every chain space around the base. When you reach the beginning:
- sl st into the first popcorn stitch
- sl st into the next chain space so your hook is sitting in a chain space, ready for the edging.
Step 4: Pretty edging around the flowers
Now you’ll add a soft, lacy edge that goes around the outside of all the popcorn flowers. This helps the coaster lie flat and look finished.
Edging round:
In each chain space around:
- ch 2
- 1 dc
- ch 2
- 1 sc in the dc space
Repeat this (ch 2, dc, ch 2, sc in dc space) all the way around the coaster. When you get back to the start:
- sl st into the 1st dc
- Cut the yarn and pull it tight to fasten off.
Weave in all your ends on the back with your yarn needle. If the coaster looks a little wavy, you can lightly block it by shaping it with your hands and laying it flat to dry.
Step 5: Make a whole bouquet set
Once you finish one flower bouquet coaster, it is easy to make more.
- Use the same base and leaf pattern, but change the flower color each time.
- Make a rainbow set for gifts or matching sets for your kitchen or coffee table.
- Tie a few coasters together with a ribbon to make a cute handmade present.
Happy crocheting and have fun watching your little yarn bouquet bloom!
