Step 1: Make the Flower Pot
- Base:
- MR, ch 1.
- Round 1: 6 sc in ring. Tighten, sl st to first sc.
- Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (6 inc, 12 sc). Sl st to join.
- Round 3: [1 sc, inc] repeat around (18 sts). Sl st to join.
- Round 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat around. Sl st to join.
- Round 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat to end of round. Sl st to join.
- Body:
- Ch 2, dc in back loops only (BLO) of each st around for this round. Sl st to join.
- Continue with dc, alternating FPdc and regular dc for texture (FPdc in FPdc of previous round, dc in dc).
- Work 3 more rounds this way for the pot “body”.
- Top Edge:
- Ch 1, turn work.
- Reverse single crochet (crab stitch) into inner loop only for a neat edge.
- Finishing the Pot:
- Cut yarn, weave in end with tapestry needle. Hide the seam by weaving the tail through stitches; leave outer loops unworked for later.
Step 2: Crochet the Soil
- Work circle as for pot base but do not pull the magic ring tight—leave the center loose so a flower stem can pass through later.
- Work through “[3 sc, 1 inc]” round.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Step 3: Crochet the Flower Center
- Work as for pot base (6 sc in MR, 6 inc, [1 sc, inc] in third round).
- After round 3, work 1 round even (sc in each st).
- Fasten off, turn right side out.
Step 4: Crochet the Flower Petals
Make 12 petals directly onto the flower center:
- Attach petal yarn to any stitch on flower center.
- Ch 8.
- In 4th chain from hook: 1 dc.
- Next ch: 1 dc.
- Next ch: 1 hdc.
- Next ch: 1 sc.
- Final ch: sl st.
- Slip stitch into the next center base stitch, repeat steps 2–7 for each petal.
- After 12 petals, sl st in center, fasten off.
Step 5: Crochet the Calyx (Flower Base)
- MR, 6 sc.
- [1 sc, inc] around.
- [2 sc, inc] around.
- Ch 1, fasten off leaving a 10-inch tail.
Step 6: Crochet the Leaves (Make 2)
- Ch 14.
- Insert floral wire alongside chain.
- Sc along entire chain, covering the wire. At the end: 3 sc in last st.
- Turn and sc down opposite side, enclosing wire.
- Sl st to join round.
- Edging: [2 sc, ch 2, skip 1, picot (sl st + ch 1 in side loop)] around, finishing with 1 sc and sl st to join.
- Fasten off, leave 8-inch tail.
Step 7: Crochet the Flower Buds (Make 2)
- MR, ch 2, 9 dc in ring (starting chains not counted as stitch).
- Switch to green yarn, sl st to first dc, ch 1.
- Round 2: 9 hdc around, join with sl st.
- Stuff yarn tails inside.
- Round 3: [1 sc, 1 dec] around until closed.
- Leave 6-inch tail for assembly.
Step 8: Assemble the Flower
- Buds: Use tapestry needle to gather and close openings; thread wire through center, twist and secure with glue and yarn for a stem.
- Main Flower: Thread wire through calyx and flower center, bend and secure.
- Arrange leaves: Wrap stems with yarn and secure with glue.
Step 9: Pot Assembly
- Insert stems (flower, buds, leaves) through the hole in the soil round.
- Leave approx. ½ inch of wire in the pot base and secure using glue.
- Align soil piece with unworked outer loops of pot top; sew together, leaving a small opening.
- Stuff with fiberfill for roundness before closing.
- Sew remainder, secure, and weave in ends.
Final Touches
- Shape and fluff: Bend wires for natural effect; shape petals and leaves.
- Adjust the base: If the bottom of your pot bulges, thread a needle to make tight stitches across the base and pull slightly inward.
- Weave in any loose ends.
- Optional: Add glue dots inside pot for extra stability.
Customizing Your Plant
- Try different yarn types, colors, and sizes!
- Mix and match flower petal colors.
- Adjust leaf lengths for variety.
Congratulations—your crochet potted plant is complete! Bend, fluff, and arrange it just how you like. Enjoy your new cheerful home decor, or gift it to brighten someone’s day.
Happy crocheting!
