Here is the complete, row-by-row pattern for the Puff Flower Headband (or Belt) written in standard US crochet terms and format.

Notes Before You Begin

  • Skill Level: Intermediate (due to puff stitches in the round)
  • Terminology: US crochet terms
  • Yarn: Worsted weight (Size 4) or DK (Size 3) – “4-ply” as mentioned
  • Hook: 2.0 mm (or size needed to achieve tight stitches)
  • Gauge: Not critical for this project
  • Construction: Worked in sections – Flower A → Tie A → Repeated Flowers/Ties → Flower B → Tie B

Special Stitch (US Terms)

Puff Stitch (Puff):

  • [Yarn over (YO), insert hook into stitch, YO and pull up a loop] 4 times (9 loops on hook)
  • YO and pull through all 9 loops
  • Chain 1 to close

Note: Puff stitch or the “cluster stitch” is made with 4 unfinished half double crochets. In US terms, that is a Puff Stitch (or a 4-hdc cluster).

Pattern Instructions

Flower Center (Round 1 – for each flower)

Foundation: Make a slip knot.

Row 1 (starting ring): Chain 3. Slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring. (Alternative: Make a magic ring.)

Round 1: Work 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring. Slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc to join. (6 sc)

Flower Petals (Round 2 – for each flower)

Round 2 (petals):

  • Chain 3. (Counts as first chain space)
  • Puff stitch in the same stitch as the join.
  • Chain 3.
  • Slip stitch into the same stitch.

First petal complete.

  • Repeat 5 more times in each of the remaining 5 sc from Round 1:
  • Chain 3
  • Puff stitch in the same stitch
  • Chain 3
  • Slip stitch in the same stitch

After the 6th petal: Fasten off or continue to the tie section. (6 petals total)

Flower complete. Make as many flowers as needed for your desired headband length.

Tie / Strap Section (between flowers)

This section connects one flower to the next.

Row (tie): Chain 30 (or more/less for desired length).

Tip from video: The tie length is adjustable. Chain longer for a looser fit behind the head, shorter for a snug fit.

Connecting to the Next Flower

After completing the chain for the tie:

Foundation for next flower: Skip the first chain from the hook (or count it as a turning chain). In the 2nd chain from hook:

Round 1 (new flower): Work 6 single crochet (sc) across the chain. Slip stitch to the first sc to join. (6 sc)

Round 2 (new flower): Repeat Round 2 (Petals) above – same as the first flower.

Repeating the Pattern

Repeat the following sequence until the headband reaches your desired length (measured across the forehead or around the head):

  1. Tie Section: Chain 30 (or your chosen length)
  2. Next Flower: Work 6 sc into the 2nd chain from hook → join → work 6 puff-stitch petals

Final Tie (End of Headband)

After completing the last flower in the sequence:

Final tie: Chain 30 (or same length as the first tie).

Fasten off: Cut yarn, pull through final loop. Weave in all ends securely.
