This is a great little pattern for a fancy dishcloth or washcloth or a square in a 6X6 afghan! The texture is gorgeous, I do love the look of it.This Diagonal Box Stitch Square 6×6 by Donna Mason-Svara looks like fun to put together and see all the geometric shapes it can make!

It should work for any number of rows which is the great thing about diagonally-worked squares like this; they can be made to pretty much any size. In the first half, you increase the number of shells in each row. In the second section, you decrease the number of shells in each row, at the same rate you increased.
It’s fairly simple to memorize this pattern. Instead of making small squares you can make one big one. You start at one corner and increase a “shell” at the beginning of each row until it is as wide as you want, then you decrease one “shell” until you reach the opposite corner. If you make stripes they will be diagonal.
If you want to make several 6×6 (or whatever size) squares and attach them together, it has an amazing effect.

Technically the pattern is written to make just one quarter of the square to the left, as if starting from any of the corners. I was just determined to make a 12″ square in one piece and arrange the diagonal stripes just so.(Source)
