Instructions
Foundation & First Row
- Foundation Chain:
- Make a slipknot and CH 11.
- Row 1:
- Starting in the 2nd CH from hook, work 1 HDC.
- Continue 1 HDC in each CH across (10 HDC total).
Second Row (Back Loop Only)
- Turn: CH 1, flip work.
- Back Loop Only (BLO):
- Work 5 HDC into the back loops of the next 5 stitches.
- Chain Loop:
- CH 15.
- SLST into the first CH to form a ring.
- Complete Row:
- Work 5 HDC into the remaining stitches (10 HDC total for row).
Third Row (Braid Section)
- Turn: CH 1, flip work.
- First 5 HDC: Work 5 HDC as usual.
- Braid Loop:
- Work 16 SC into the 15-CH loop from the previous row.
- Last 5 HDC: Work 5 HDC to finish the row.
Fourth Row (Repeat Second Row)
- Turn: CH 1, flip work.
- Work 5 HDC.
- CH 15, SLST into first CH to form a ring.
- Work 5 HDC to complete the row.
Fifth Row (Repeat Third Row)
- Turn: CH 1, flip work.
- Work 5 HDC.
- Work 16 SC into the 15-CH loop.
- Work 5 HDC to finish.
Continue the Pattern
- Alternate between Row 4 (CH loop) and Row 5 (SC into loop) until the strap reaches your desired length.
Braiding the Strap
- Once complete, lay the strap flat.
- Weave the loops:
- Pass the 2nd loop through the 1st loop.
- Pass the 3rd loop through the 2nd loop.
- Continue until all loops are braided.
- Secure the end:
- Sew a button at the starting end.
- Use the last loop as a buttonhole.
Finishing
- Weave in all loose ends.
- For a polished look, gently steam-block the strap.
Tip: Adjust the CH length (e.g., CH 20 for a looser braid).
