How To Crochet A Multicolor Granny Square

Difficulty Level 

This is a beginner-friendly pattern and you have to know the basic stitches in crochet: chain, double crochet, and double crochet cluster. 

MATERIALS 

Yarn 

Feel free to use any kind of yarn. For this pattern, we used DK yarn 

Hooks 

4 mm 

Notions 

Stitch markers, Scissor  

 Each square is approximately 24 cm x 24 cm.  Your gauge may vary.

ABBREVIATIONS

This pattern is written and charted using standard US crochet terminology. 

Pattern 

With the first color, CH 5 and sl st to the first chain to form a loop. CH 3

(counts as one  double crochet.)

Row 01– 3 DC cluster, 3 CH,  

(4 DC cluster, 3 CH)x3 sl st to the top of the first DC cluster. Make Sl st to the next chain 2 sp.

Row 02– 3 CH+3 DC cluster+3 CH+4  DC cluster to same space.  

4 DC cluster+3 CH+4 DC cluster+3CH  into the next 3 spaces. Sl st to the top of the first DC cluster. Fasten off.

Change the color. Join the new color into a chain space with a slip stitch. 

Row 03– 3 CH, 3 DC cluster+3CH+ 4 DC  cluster into same space. 2 CH 

(4 DC cluster,2 CH, 4 DC cluster+3CH+ 4  DC cluster,2CH)x3 into next spaces. Sl st into the top of the first 3 chains.  Fasten off.

Change the color. Join the new color into a chain space with a slip stitch. 

Row 04– 3 CH, 3 DC cluster+3CH+ 4 DC  cluster into same space.2 CH
