This easy stitch is perfect for an afghan or blanket. It is just sets of 3 stitches, one single crochet and two doubles. Once you get into the hang of it, you can do it in your sleep!

The How To Crochet: Blanket Stitch  photo tutorial offered by Robin Beersshows the stitch pattern, which can be used with just about any yarn you like. If you've been searching for an easy crochet pattern for baby blankets you should try this one. The directions are so clear. You should feel quite comfortable trying it.

Decide how wide you want your blanket to be and chain the proper number in multiples of 3. I chained 108 for this blanket and it is about 31 inches wide.

  1. ok, I’m a total dufus, but no matter what I have tried, I cannot get this pattern to download. I know I’m old, but this is a cruel trick to people my age who already feel empty headed as it is!!!

  2. Like your shell border. I also like your profile pic. I am SO fortunate to live in the same town as CoHo. Her store is about a mile from my home. I occasionally get to talk to her. She and I love this great shop near her.

  3. It’s called the Blanket Stitch. If you Google it you will find it. It basically is a single crochet and two double crochet in same stitch then skip two stitches and single crochet and two double crochet in next stitch. It is VERY easy. I have made a few baby blankets and a few afghans using this stitch. After the first couple of rows you won’t even have to count the stitches because the pattern will be right there in front of you. You’ll see right where you need to do your single crochet. I love it!
